Based in Estonia, NutriLoop is developing a circular system to collect organic waste from waste producers such as restaurants, offices, and municipalities to convert them into biofertilizers using bacteria and earthworms. Fertilizer produced from the bio-waste is stated to increase soil carbon and biodiversity.
As of May 2022, the company was yet to commercialize its product and had conducted pilot projects with the Keila City Government to analyze how bio-waste produced in the city is treated. It had also partnered with LHV, an Estonian banking and financial services company, to collect organic waste from its kitchens. Based on a field test, peas grown using the biofertilizer made from LHV sourced waste resulted in longer pea pods.
