FruitLeather Rotterdam develops a durable, bio-leather from leftover mangoes. The process involves deseeding and creating fruit pulp, which is then dried into sheets that can be cut, sewn, printed, and covered with coatings to resemble real leather. The material is used across fashion items such as footwear and accessories as well as interiors.
FruitLeather Rotterdam’s mango leather has been used in London-based luxury sustainable label Luxtra’s vegan handbags. In December 2020, the company also partnered with Spanish fashion brand SAYE for mango leather sneakers.
