Better Dairy is a startup developing substitutes to cheese, using precision fermentation. The startup is following a process similar to beer brewing that produces a dairy substitute molecularly identical to actual dairy. While Better Dairy has already succeeded in producing its first sample in the lab, the startup has stated that its main challenge is optimization of end-to-end low cost production.
Funding and Financials:
In February 2022, the startup raised USD 22 million in Series A funding co-led by RedAlpine and Vorwerk. Funds will be utilized to move to a new 6,000 sqft laboratory and office space in East London and to expand its workforce from 8 to 35 to support the company’s attempt to become the first player to launch hard cheeses in the animal-free dairy space.
