Terrafuse AI develops AI-based climate and weather risk forecasting tools to express wildfire risk scores.
In October 2021, the company launched a new platform to visualize California wildfire risk, known as “Wildfire AI.” Terrafuse’s Wildfire AI is a predictive model that is freely available to the public. This model assesses and mitigates property risks arising from California wildfires, ranging from low to very high risk scores. The company’s Wildfire AI model is validated against USD 400 billion of proprietary insurance claims data.
Key customers and partnerships
Terrafuse’s technology is built on Microsoft Azure to forecast wildfire risk at a hyperlocal level by leveraging machine learning, numerical simulations, and satellite imagery to model wildfire risk at any location. The company’s other partners include the U.S. Air Force, National Science Foundation, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Funding and financials
In April 2020, Terrafuse received USD 750,000 in grant funding for a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) phase two project backed by the National Science Foundation. Previously, in December 2018, the company received SBIR phase one funding worth USD 242,000. The proceeds were to be deployed to develop AI emulators for wildfire risks.
