Edge Impulse offers a platform for developers and engineers to build and deploy machine learning (ML) models on any type of edge device to optimize the use of sensor data. The platform specializes in predictive maintenance, asset tracking and monitoring, and human and animal sensing. Accordingly, the models can be used across a range of industries, including automotive, agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, wearables, and wildlife conservation, among others.
Edge Impulse offers its product to both individual engineers (which includes a free tier) and enterprises. The enterprise package enables users to collaborate between engineering teams, work with larger datasets, and have a higher degree of support. Additionally, it includes a service for generating and managing synthetic data through GenAI. These capabilities are integrated into the existing platform for building and deploying machine-learning models to Edge devices.
Key customers and partnerships
Edge Impulse solutions are used by makers of health-wearable devices like Oura, Know Labs, and NOWATCH, industrial organizations like NASA, as well as top silicon vendors.
Edge Impulse noted that its software had a growing list of silicon partners, including Arm, Nvidia, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Himax, and Eta Compute. Moreover, in April 2021, Edge Impulse made its ML development software available on the Nvidia Jetson Edge AI platform, gaining access to millions of users globally.
In February 2023, Edge Impulse partnered with MemryX, a microprocessor manufacturer specializing in edge AI, to enable users to develop, test, and deploy AI models on the latter’s AI accelerator chips. In August 2023, the company partnered with IAR, a leader in software and services for embedded development, for full integration between Edge Impulse’s platform and IAR Embedded Workbench.
Funding and financials
In December 2021, the company raised USD 34 million in Series B funding at a valuation of USD 234 million. The round was led by Coatue. The company aimed to use the funds to double its workforce to 80, with an emphasis on expanding the solutions engineering team.
