LAWCLERK is an online marketplace that connects attorneys and law firms with freelance lawyers for project-based legal work. The platform allows attorneys to hire freelance lawyers, called "Lawclerks," for tasks such as legal research, document drafting, discovery, and other written work. LAWCLERK's proprietary technology ensures client confidentiality and compliance with ethical rules across all 50 US states. 

The platform uses a project-based model where hiring attorneys post work opportunities and freelance lawyers can apply. Additionally, the platform handles vetting, payments, and tax reporting for the freelancers. The company also offers a subscription program for firms needing ongoing help, as well as an hourly associate option introduced in January 2023.  LAWCLERK offers a “Virtual Associate Subscription Program” where freelance lawyers looking for a consistent number of hours at a set hourly rate (instead of a flat fee) can be paired with hiring attorneys looking to work with the same freelance attorney for an extended period. 

The platform does not charge a subscription fee but levies clients a flat project price, with freelancers charged a platform commission of 28% (which can be considered above average).  

Key customers and partnerships

As of October 2024, the company had “thousands” of law firms using its platform, supplemented by 12,000+ US-based freelance attorneys. LAWCLERK primarily serves solo practitioners, small law firms, and corporate legal departments looking to outsource legal work.
