Founded in Lithuania, Trafi started out as a B2C mobility information app, before pivoting in 2016 to a B2B solution, where it works with partner cities and businesses to develop mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platforms. While continuing to offer its B2C app (available in more than 30 countries), its B2B business, where it offers white-label products on a licensing basis.
Key customers and partnerships
Trafi’s has executed B2B solutions in a number of cities, including Berlin (Jelbi) and Munich (MVG) as well as in the Czech Republic and Lithuania.
In August 2020, Trafi extended the capabilities of its services with the launch of the first regional MaaS platform in Switzerland, connecting cities in Zurich, Bern, and Basel under a single app called ‘Yumuv’. Trafi has since gone on to execute a number of other regional MaaS solutions including in the UK’s Solent region (October 2021). In December 2021, Trafi won the tender to manage Jelbi, Berlin’s MaaS platform, which Trafi developed 2.5 years ago. With ~45,000 vehicles integrated on the platform, Jelbi is now the largest multimodal MaaS platform in the world.
The firm also partners with mobility providers including Lyft, Volkswagen, and Gojek.
Funding and financials
Trafi raised an undisclosed amount in series B funding in August 2020 led by Sumitomo Corporation and Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance. The funds are to be used to drive Trafi’s international expansion, particularly to Asian Markets. In line with this, in February 2021, Trafi entered the Latin American market, beginning with Bogota, Colombia, where it claims to have introduced the first-ever MaaS platform in Latin America. The firm plans to expand to other major cities in the region such as Sao Paulo in Brazil.
