Smoodi

Smoodi is a Boston-based developer of smoothie-making robots. The company offers a fruit juice vending machine that mixes fruits, vegetables, and add-ins like protein into a smoothie. The machine also self-cleans and is transparent so that customers can watch the frozen ingredients travel through the blending process. The company also sells smoothie pods made from flash frozen whole fruits and vegetables. The company’s product is currently available in convenience stores, offices, restaurants, and other retailers. 

The company had plans to launch new flavors, continue R&D to automate the drink booster dispensing feature of the Smoodi machines and to test the robots in Europe in 2023. 

Key customers and partnerships

In December 2022, the company announced a new partnership with the food distributing giant Dot Foods to help the company expand beyond convenience stores. The company had plans to enable Dot Foods to eventually take over its equipment distribution and thereby reduce the time taken to launch in new sites across North America to two days from the current three weeks. 

Funding and financials

Smoodi claims 25% monthly revenue growth since its commercial market launch in 2021. 

In December 2022, the company raised USD 5 million in a series A round led by a group formed by Keith Canning, a former distributor. The funding round also saw participation from FCP Ventures, UnderscoreVC, Allston Venture Fund, WSPR Fund, Phoenix Club, and several angel investors. The funds raised were to be utilized on scaling Smoodi nationwide. The company had plans to add a chief revenue officer, a chief operating officer, and regional managers to its team and scale up the production capacity of both equipment and consumables.
