Zipp Mobility is an Irish micromobility company that provides shared e-scooter and e-bike services. Founded in 2019 by Charlie Gleeson, the company is headquartered at NovaUCD, the entrepreneurial hub of University College Dublin. Zipp Mobility's core mission revolves around promoting sustainable and safe transportation solutions through a community-centric approach, termed "mobility done right".
The company operates shared e-scooters and e-bikes in various towns and cities across the UK, Poland, and Ireland. Its fleet is equipped with internet of Things (IoT) technology, allowing features like speed control, geofencing to restrict movement in specific areas, and monitoring of vehicle health. Zipp Mobility utilizes virtual parking bays and geofencing to address the issue of improperly parked vehicles obstructing streets.
To ensure safety, Zipp Mobility's e-scooters are designed with aircraft-grade aluminum frames, wide bases, dual braking systems, and low centers of gravity. The company has also partnered with the Energy Institute at UCD to conduct research on e-scooter safety. As of March 2022, Zipp Mobility had launched an e-bike sharing scheme in Dublin in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
In April 2023, Zipp Mobility was acquired by fellow Irish micromobility company Zeus Scooters for an undisclosed sum. Following the acquisition, Zipp Mobility announced plans for a new e-scooter trial in Barnstaple, Devon, in partnership with North Devon County Council, set to launch in May 2023.
