Smark is a Germany-based developer of fully automated robotic stores. The company’s solution, “smarkBox,” is a modular, automated store in a container format that can be operated 24/7. The store format allows customers to order and pay for its purchases using either a mobile app or a kiosk terminal that supports card payments. The stores use a combination of hardware, robotics, web technologies, AI, and cameras and will automatically pick and dispense the customer’s purchases. The stores also enable the customers to place orders remotely and pick them up at their convenience. Smark charges a one-time installation and onboarding fee to install its technology at stores and along with a monthly fee for its software platform.
Key customers and partnerships
Smark has deployed smarkBox stores in Germany, in partnership with the grocery retailers Roberta Goods, Campo (November 2020), and Edeka (February 2021). In December 2019, the company partnered with retailer Migrolino to launch its first smarkBox outside Germany, in Zurich, on the site of a Tesla Supercharger station.
