Luma, launched amid the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, offers a platform to record live shows, host virtual classes, and educate and gather communities via Zoom. The platform hosts and promotes Zoom events, in addition to managing attendees and selling tickets. The platform also provides a customizable event page, event attendance data, and analytics. The platform offerings include 1) hosting and managing free events, 2) managing sales in addition to hosting and managing the event (which are named Paid events and are offered for free during 2020), and 3) member-only events, where the creator provides memberships for their community. Member-only events are charged 10% of each transaction (such as access fee).
The company raised USD 3 million in a seed funding round in December 2020, led by investors Maven Ventures and Venrock. The funds are to be used to invest in further platform development and traction. By December 2020, Luma has gained more than 500,000 users, with more than 10,000 people hosting events. The company also launched its membership option in December 2020, which offers the ability to send private newsletters and integrate Slack within the community as well as other perks.
