Mate Fertility (Mate) is a fertility clinic operator that intends to operate a franchise of fertility clinics across the US. The company launched its first fertility clinic in Oklahoma city in March 2021, followed by locations in Fresno and San Luis Obispo, California. The clinics offer a range of services, including fertility assessments, assisted reproduction, egg and embryo freezing, and sperm freezing, among others.
The company intends to be an affordable alternative to existing clinics and to be inclusive and accommodating of the LGBTQ community. Mate offers its egg freezing services starting at USD 5,400, which is lower than the USD 6,500 charged by peers, KindBody and Extend Fertility, and around half of the national average cost of USD 10,000-USD 11,000.
Mate raised USD 2.8 million in seed funding in February 2021, led by Struck Capital. The funds will be used in launching a chain of fertility clinics across the US, starting with Oklahoma City, Anchorage, South Arkansas, Bakersfield, Lancaster, Austin, and Portland. Mate aims to open 1,000 fertility clinics over the next 10 years (by 2030), which would triple the number of fertility clinics present in the US relative to February 2021.
Funding and financials
In late May 2023, Mate Fertility raised USD 5.2 million to grow its chain of clinics. The Series A round was led by Struck Capital, with proceeds being tapped to open and staff new locations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, northern Virginia, and other underserved areas. The investment would also be used to bolster the firm’s marketing.
