Outplay is a conversational intelligence and sales campaign automation platform with multi-channel touchpoints. The platform provides email templates for sales sequences, email follow-ups and tracking, chat for website visitors, meeting bookings, and performance metrics. Founded in January 2019 by brothers Ram and Laxman Papineni, who built AppVirality, a referral marketing tool for mobile app developers to grow their user base. The company targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and reports to have clients mainly from North America and Europe. As of March 2021, the platform served more than 300 companies across 50 countries.
In April 2023, the firm introduced new features to its platform, including a sales prospecting database, inbound conversion and scheduling of sales leads, and conversational intelligence to help prioritize leads, coach reps, and handle objections.
Funding and financials
Outplay raised USD 2 million in funding from Sequoia Capital India’s Surge program for early-stage startups in March 2021 and raised USD 7.3 million in Series A funding again from Sequoia Capital India in July 2021. The company plans to use the fresh funds toward platform development and team expansion. The company also announced that since its seed funding round, Outplay’s revenue has grown 4x while its team has grown 3x to 50 employees.
