Urent is a Russian micromobility startup that operates an electric scooter sharing service across 60 cities in Russia. As of February 2022, the company had a fleet of 60,000 e-scooters, accounting for around 50% of the Russian e-scooter sharing market. Users can rent Urent's e-scooters through a mobile app by scanning a QR code and pay per-minute fees.
The company aims to provide an eco-friendly and accessible mode of transportation for short urban commutes. It allows users to rent e-scooters in just three minutes through its app by going through a simple registration process. Urent's e-scooters have a maximum weight limit of 100 kg and are designed for single-rider usage.
In February 2022, Urent raised USD 27.8 million in a funding round led by MTS, Russia's largest telecom operator. The investment will enable Urent to expand its e-scooter fleet to 130,000 vehicles, develop rental infrastructure like service centers, launch B2B offerings, train personnel, and enhance user safety measures. With additional debt financing planned, the company expects its total invested capital to exceed USD 37 million by the 2022 riding season.
Urent utilizes advanced technologies like 3D printing to produce spare parts on-demand, reducing lead times. The company has no immediate plans for international expansion due to geopolitical factors as of February 2022. In April 2021, Urent had raised around USD 16 million from investors including Sberbank and Citymobil.
