Oula Health

Oula is a hybrid maternity clinic that offers pregnancy care from prenatal and delivery services to postnatal support. Through Oula’s app and online platform, the clinic enables virtual consultations and postnatal check-ins with care team members, virtual classes, appointment scheduling, and workshops. Its in-person services include prenatal clinical assessments, blood work, ultrasounds, referrals for more specialized testing, and birthing.

As of February 2024, the company noted that it had handled around 1,500 births, achieving a 26% improvement in the Cesarean section rate, a 61% reduced preterm birth rate, and a 50% enhanced low birth weight rate. 

Key customers and partnerships

The company’s services are in-network with most health plans, including UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, aetna, and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. 

In October 2023, Oula Health expanded its partnership it formed with Mount Sinai originally in May 2021 for collaborating on maternity care. Through the expanded partnership, a deeper clinical and financial integration was formed, allowing even more patients to deliver their babies at Mount Sinai’s facilities by Oula midwives, along with support from Mount Sinai experts in obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine (MFM), and teams of nurses and specialists in high-risk surgical care if needed. 

Funding and financials

In February 2024, Oula Health secured USD 28 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Revolution Ventures and Maverick Ventures, with participation from other venture capital firms. The raised funds were set aside to expand Oula's maternity care clinics beyond its current New York City base. Additionally, the company planned to launch more services designed for those in their reproductive years. The company also announced its intention to open a third in-person clinic in Morningside Heights in collaboration with Mount Sinai West in 2024.
