Founded in 2020 by Satyam Baranwal and Vivek Prakash, Indian company Codingal offers an online platform for K-12 students to learn how to code using an array of services and learning tools which include catered curricula, coding competitions, learning material, and personalized attention from industry expert teachers. The premium curricula options on offer for K-12 students start from USD 110 upwards per month. Since its launch, the company has provided its services to over 250,000 students across 5,000 schools, hosting over 100 coding competitions and receiving over 100,000 submissions by students on the platform.
In September 2021, the company launched the National Coding Olympiad which is slated to be India’s biggest coding competition with over 10,000 students from across the country expected to take part. The competition is anticipated to prepare students for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), a global computer science competition. In May 2022, the company announced that it planned to hire 1,000+ teachers for its platform by September, to increase its market presence.

Funding and financials
In August 2021, the company raised USD 1.2 million in seed funding led by Y Combinator, Summer Capital, Day One Syndicate, and Rebright Partners. The funds will be used to grow the number of students that use Codingal to 500,000 in a year and further develop the platform to provide an improved learning experience. As of August 2021, the company generates over 20% revenue from international customers.
