Spun out from HBO’s Interactive and Immersive Group in April 2020, the company (also known as Shrapnel) is developing its triple-A title using blockchain technology. Shrapnel is run by a group of industry veterans from leading game companies including Xbox and Electronic Arts. The company intends to make Shrapnel suitable for competitive gameplay coupled with community creator tools to encourage shared gaming experiences.
Neon Media raised USD 7 million via a private token sale. Investors including Dragonfly, Defiance, and Three Arrows Capital participated in the sale. This follows a USD 10.5 million seed funding round in late 2021. The new funding was earmarked for the development of its debut title Shrapnel, a triple-A first-person shooter game. Since its previous funding round, the team has grown to 30 from seven and it continues to scout for new hires.
