Novus is a B Corp-certified fintech company that aims to influence consumers' lifestyles by helping them make more climate-conscious purchasing decisions. Launched in December 2021 after a successful crowdfunding campaign, Novus offers a green banking app that provides users with individualized carbon footprint calculations for each payment transaction in real time. The app's innovative technology connects consumers' spending habits with purpose-driven brands and projects, creating an ecosystem that promotes sustainable living.
Novus partnered with ecolytiq, a Sustainability-as-a-Service solution provider, to integrate their software into the app. This software calculates personal environmental impacts, such as CO2 values, based on payment transactions. Novus' proprietary "thematic matching" technology allocates a portion of the interchange fee from each transaction to NGOs of the customer's choice, enabling users to support causes aligned with their purchases.
In addition to its core banking app, Novus expanded its product offering to include lifestyle app features and partnerships with sustainable companies in sectors like food and beverage, household products, fashion, beauty, and cosmetics. These partnerships provided Novus customers with special offers and discounts, further incentivizing eco-friendly consumption.
By the end of 2022, faced with challenges in the venture capital market and increasing pressure for profitability, Novus pivoted its business model. Leveraging its deep understanding of payment infrastructure and transaction systems, the company rebranded as Greenfin, offering software and product development services, advisory services on payments and sustainability, and white-label solutions to larger financial services companies. This strategic shift allowed Novus to achieve profitability quickly with its new brand.
