Polish company Zortrax offers a range of additive manufacturing (AM) services including the sale of 3D printers, post-processing printers, software, materials, and on-demand AM services. The company targets a range of applications including in the aerospace, automotive, bridge manufacturing, consumer electronics, dentistry, jewelry, packaging, and medicine industries.
Zortrax offers a range of desktop 3D printers that use dual-extrusion technology (with two nozzles allowing the use of multiple filaments). The machines are also capable of pausing automatically if any anomaly is detected (including power outages) and resume when the issue is resolved. It also uses water-soluble supports that dissolve quickly without leaving any residues in printed parts. These printers can be connected via Wi-Fi, ethernet, or even USB ports to develop a cluster of remotely controlled 3D printers through the InCloud system. Zortrax also offers a post-processing printer that uses the proprietary smart vapor smoothing (SVS) technology that can evenly smoothen complex geometry surfaces.
The Zortrax software, which works with their machines as well as third-party LCD printers, offers a range of functions including rotation optimization, editable supports generation, overgrowth correction, smoothing edges, saving print profiles for later use, and replication of tools.
Zortrax also offers various materials including resins and filaments made of polymers, micro-carbon fibers, thermoplastic polyester, and nylon. Its X-PEEK filament received certification from the European Space Agency in May 2022, stating it fulfills the agency’s outgassing requirements. Zortrax printers work with third-party materials as well.
Key customers and partnerships
Zortrax operates through a network of resellers globally, including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, China, and India. Some of its customers are NASA, Bosch, Falectra, ABcar, Athletics 3D, Pipers, GUMED, and Photon.
In August 2023, the company partnered with AM Centre of Excellence (AM-COE) , a UK-based additive manufacturing research center, to develop a new 3D-printing machine for processing ceramic resins. According to the terms of the deal, Zortrax agreed to undertake the manufacturing of the machine, called “ActiveCera M,” and also implement Z-SUITE software to prepare ceramic resin models.
Funding and financials
In 2022, Zortrax reported revenues of PLN 40.2 million (~USD 9.3 million) reporting a growth of 102% YoY. However, the company is yet to make profits, with the net loss amounting to PLN 8.7 million (~USD 2.1 million).
