Abodu is a manufacturer of prefab accessory dwelling units (ADUs). The company offers three pre-designed and approved models: a 340-square-foot studio, a 500-square-foot one-bedroom house, and a 610-square-foot two-bedroom house, with prices starting at USD 190,000. The company reports that it can deliver a completed unit within 30 to 90 days depending on the approvals required in different cities.
Abodu incorporates sustainable features to its ADUs such as insulating walls, ceilings, and subfloors with sustainable material, building units to run totally on electricity (no gas connections required), using energy-efficient appliances, and providing options to incorporate third-party solar panels. Abodu adopts a unique operating model which uses a network of factory partners, within its operational areas, who build Abodu units depending on their capacities. The company also entered into a partnership with Intero, a provider of real estate services based in Morgan Hill, California, to offer Abodu ADUs for Intero clients.
The company operates in Northern California, Southern California, and the Pacific Northwest. In July 2021, the company raised USD 20 million in Series A funding led by Norwest Venture Partners with participation from several previous investors. The company also planned to enter the San Diego market.
