Sanarai is a nonclinical mental health platform that provides virtual mental health services to Spanish-speaking adults. The platform partners with psychologists based in Latin America, enabling users to access mental health support in their native language from culturally competent professionals. Sanarai addresses the lack of access to mental healthcare faced by Latino and Hispanic communities in the US, where only around 35% of adults with mental illness receive treatment, often due to language barriers and lack of insurance coverage.
Founded by Luis Suarez, a Mexican entrepreneur who struggled to find Spanish-language mental health services after moving to the US, Sanarai aims to make mental healthcare more accessible and less stigmatized within the Latinx community. Through its online marketplace, users can easily schedule and pay for 50-minute video sessions with certified psychologists in Mexico. As of March 2023, Sanarai had facilitated over 200 sessions on its platform since its launch in 2020.
Sanarai's business model allows users to access mental health support without requiring health insurance, catering to the uninsured population. The platform has grown its network to 40 mental health professionals as of March 2023. Sanarai has partnered with Google to provide mental health services to participants in the Latino Founders Fund, a tech initiative that supports Latino founders.
