KOALA develops a multi-retailer self-checkout mobile app. Customers can select their preferred store using KOALA’s app, enter the store, scan barcodes of their purchases, and complete the transaction either via an in-app payment or a cashier payment. The KOALA app supports a range of payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit cards, and SEPA, and can be integrated with the existing POS systems in stores. Additionally, it can also be integrated into retailers’ existing mobile solutions. KOALA’s app supports customer loyalty points, offers, promotions, coupons, product recommendations, and age verifications for age-restricted purchases. KOALA enables employees to verify the purchases by scanning the barcode of a customer purchase and can be integrated with automatic door controls for enhanced security measures. KOALA also generates reports for store operators.

As of April 2020, KOALA’s app had 5,000 downloads. The company’s technology was deployed at several retail locations in Germany, including Rathausmarkt and Rindermarkthalle. The company had partnered with retailer Edeka to deploy mobile app-based checkout solutions at retail stores.
