Based in Portugal, AgriStarBio offers farmers and agribusinesses granular organic fertilizers made using a proprietary upcycling process. The company sources sludge, organic waste, and paper waste from paper factories, waste-water treatment facilities, and pig farms, which is then adjusted for nutrients in the company’s proprietary reactor called the “Biosolids Treatment System” (BTSYS). The mix is then dried and granulated to produce the finished product. The fertilizer provides organic matter, which promotes increased microbial activity in the soil, leading to increased nutrient uptake and better yields. The fertilizer is also stated to increase nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium availability (NPK) and reduce leaching.
The company claims that its fertilizer production process is fully circular, emission-free, and waste-free. As of May 2022, the company had recycled upto 15.6 tons of organic matter per year from paper factories, water treatment stations, and pig farms collectively, translating to more that 1,400 tons of NPK fertilizer produced per year.
