CAIRA Surgical focuses on robotic and navigated orthopedic surgery through its proprietary radar surgical tracking and advanced surgical planning technologies. The company's flagship product is a stand-alone navigation system for total knee replacement, which utilizes its Radar Surgical Tracking technology to provide sub-millimeter accurate tracking without line-of-sight interference. This radar-based system eliminates the need for invasive surgical hardware, large-footprint capital equipment, and costly disposables associated with traditional robotic and navigation systems.
CAIRA’s radar tracking technology streamlines surgical workflows, reduces operating times, and enhances patient safety by eliminating additional incisions and invasive instruments. The technology enables anatomic landmark registration to be completed in approximately 90 seconds, a significant improvement over existing technologies for hip and knee replacements. Caira plans to expand its platform to address hip, shoulder, and spine procedures, and potentially embed its proprietary radar-tracking technology into dedicated hospital or ambulatory surgery center operating rooms.
In addition to its radar tracking system, Caira was developing advanced surgical planning tools to assist surgeons in patient-specific implant positioning. The company expected to submit its knee navigation system for FDA clearance during the second half of 2024 (August 2024). As of July 2024, the company had three patents with other pending patents.
