Based in Texas, Dream Harvest Farming Company operates a wind-powered hydroponic vertical farm that produces a variety of herbs and greens, including kales, lettuces, mustards, collards, and cabbages. The company sells its products to retailers, such as Whole Foods Market, Kroger, and Grit Grocery in the Greater Houston Area. In December 2021, the company reported that it is researching approximately 20 new crop varieties and expects to expand its retail distribution to more than 250 retail locations across the US in 2022. Dream Harvest also offers a delivery service for its fresh produce on a subscription basis, charging consumers USD 15 per week.
According to the company, its products have a 12 day shelf life compared to most grocery store greens that last for about 3 days. The company also reports that its vertical farm can produce 400x more produce compared to conventional organic farming with 95% less water.
Dream Harvest received USD 50 million from Orion Energy Partners (US-based energy infrastructure and service provider) as capital funding in December 2021. The fresh funds will be allocated to construct a new 100,000 square feet vertical farming facility to scale production and offering to retailers and meet the increasing demand for fresh produce. The location of the proposed facility was not disclosed.
