Spun out of Seattle-based Pioneer Square Labs in April 2020, Kevala aims to facilitate staffing for senior living facilities. The platform organizes a curated list of on-call nurses who can cover shifts when required. Kevala generates revenue by taking a cut of wages from temporary nursing staff and fee-based software sales. As of January 2021, the platform has 38 customers.
The platform has experienced mixed results during the Covid-19 pandemic as understaffed senior living facilities require additional staff, increasing bill rates. On the other hand, it has been adversely impacted by the lower senior living facility admissions due to the pandemic. The funding proceeds will be used to boost hiring.
Key customers and partnerships
Kevala primarily serves senior care communities, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and rehabilitation centers. The platform connects these facilities with a pool of qualified healthcare professionals, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants.
In January 2024, Kevala partnered with Integral Senior Living to introduce Kevala's scheduling platform to 65 of Integral's assisted living facilities spanning multiple states.
