Founded in 2018 by former Qualcomm executive Vinay Ravuri, EdgeQ offers an artificial intelligence (AI) system on chip (SoC) with a software-customizable silicon platform that delivers 5G connectivity and AI at the edge. The company came out of stealth in November 2020, and has yet to begin manufacturing its chips or disclose the full details of its product. In addition to its US operations, EdgeQ also has offices in India.
The EdgeQ SOC is anticipated to cater to a wide range of industries including manufacturing, construction, automotive, and surveillance, among others. A key feature of the chips will be their reprogrammability, which allows the processors to be altered as needed.
Funding and financials
In April 2023, EdgeQ raised USD 75 million in Series B funding from Phaistos Investment Fund, Strategic Development Fund EDBI, and IRONGREY, among several others. The company earmarked the funding to increase production of its SOC to meet demand and develop its next-generation processor.
