Gather

Gather is a virtual space with web-based video calling capabilities combined with a 2D map which allows individuals to carry out natural conversations in a multitude of settings (office, university, etc). Users can move around and interact with others, creating an immersive experience similar to an in-person office. Features include the ability to share multiple screens, Slack integration, virtual backgrounds, and premium support. The company claims to have superior compatibility with spatial technology due to its natively built video conferencing system. 

Funding and financials

In November 2021, Gather raised USD 50 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Sequoia Capital and Index Ventures. Angel investors including Dylan Field (CEO, Figma) and Jeff Weiner (executive chairman, LinkedIn) also participated in the round. The fresh funds were funneled toward expanding its operations and business reach, with plans to pursue its long-term vision for the metaverse to freely make work and educational opportunities available worldwide.
