Nuts for Cheese is a Canadian startup using fermented cashew milk and traditional cheese-making techniques to produce five types of wedges using plant-based cheese varieties such as chipotle cheddar, brie, blue cheese, red rind (similar to gouda), and smokey artichoke and herb. In 2016, the company received funds from the Ontario Centres of Excellence through the SmartStart Seed program. The proceeds were utilized to grow its team and enhance its facilities.
The company operates out of its 11,000 sq. ft. Ontario headquarters with a headcount of approximately 20. As of 2019, Nuts for Cheese’s products were available in about 600 stores across Canada, including leading grocery stores such as Sobeys, Farm Boy, Longo’s, and Whole Foods, among others. In September 2023 , the company received an A-grade certification from the British Retail Consortium (BRC), underscoring the company's commitment to quality and safety.
Funding and financials
In June 2022 , the company raised USD 5.35 million in a funding round led by Forage Capital Partners. The funds were to be utilized for enhancement of facility and equipment, key hires, innovation and marketing expenses. The company further announced plans to implement a board of directors led by Mike Farta as chairman.
