Mem is a self-organizing note-taking and personal organization app providing a timeline of notes, natural language search, and AI features for organizations to retrieve knowledge from various internal sources. Mem captures an individual’s information using notes and from itself and other apps and platforms, aiming to create connections between pieces of information to automatically organize content and easily make relevant information available using an AI-powered search function. Mem’s features include:

1) Capturing information from the desktop via SMS and syncing email and calendar applications to import and organize contacts and meeting schedules

2) Using AI to surface similar notes when a note is selected

3) A smart natural language search function to look up information

4) Note summarizing using an AI writer called “Smart Write”

5) Paraphrasing and formatting using Smart Edit

Mem leverages OpenAI’s GPT-4 embeddings models and Pinecone’s vector search for smart organization and writing functions.

Key customers and partnerships

In November 2022, Mem partnered with OpenAI, receiving funding from the Open AI Startup Fund, along with early access to new OpenAI features and resources from Microsoft Azure.

As of April 2024, Mem’s customers included professionals at companies like Andreessen Horowitz, Salesforce, Dropbox, PwC, Gusto, and Databricks.

Funding and financials

In November 2022, Mem raised USD 23.5 million in a funding round led by the OpenAI Startup Fund at a valuation of USD 110 million. The firm intended to use the funds to expand operations and business reach.
