Nexgrid was a company that specialized in smart grid technology and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solutions based on open standards. Its flagship product, intelaMeter Water, enabled utility companies and their customers to monitor water usage in real-time from any computer or smartphone. The intelaMeter Water provided consumption data, leak detection, and tamper detection capabilities.
The intelaMeter Water utilized a wireless mesh ZigBee platform and patented algorithms to achieve true two-way, real-time communication with a 20-year battery life. It was compatible with most water meters on the market at the time, including those from Sensus, Badger, Hersey, and Master Meter.
The founder and CEO of Nexgrid in October 2012 stated that the company provided water and electric metering, street light control, and load management on a unified communications infrastructure. The intelaMeter Water demonstrated Nexgrid's commitment to developing innovative products for the smart grid market.

These saltwater batteries used sodium ions and employed widely available materials like carbon, cotton, saltwater, and manganese oxide as the primary inputs. Aquion's technology was optimized for stationary and long-duration daily cycling applications such as off-grid systems, microgrids, energy management, and grid-scale energy storage.
