Li Industries is a developer of lithium-ion (li-ion) battery sorting and recycling technologies using machine learning and automation. The company offers two solutions: Smart Battery Sorting (SBS), and Direct Li-ion Battery Recycled (DLBR) technologies.
The SBS solution is the company’s proprietary sorting method which uses machine learning to identify different kinds of battery chemistries and automates the process, allowing battery chemistries to be sorted and separated for recycling. The DLBR solution looks at safely discharging li-ion batteries, and separating battery components using its proprietary sorting method, after which it can regenerate cathode and anode waste to produce commercial-grade battery materials.
As of August 2022, Li Industries planned to build a commercial battery sorting and recycling facility in the US, scheduled to open in 2023.
Key customers and partnerships
In April 2022, the company partnered with Call2Recycle, a nonprofit organization operating recycling programs, to set up a lithium-ion battery recycling process using Li Industries’ technology, with plans to commercialize it in 2023.
Funding and financials
In August 2022, Li Industries had raised USD 7 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures to bring its battery sorting and recycling technology and operation to full scale.
