IXON Food Technology, based in Hong Kong, specializes in developing self-chilling packages using its food preservation technology featuring its proprietary Advanced Sous-vide Aseptic Packaging (ASAP). This innovative method sterilizes food at a stable temperature (between 60°C and 80°C) while preventing exposure to temperatures greater than 121°C. Unlike canned or frozen foods, this allows the preservation of a range of food products, including meats, to be stored at room temperature for up to two years without refrigeration or preservatives while preserving the taste, texture, and quality of food, even keeping meat juicy, tender, and medium-rare without using harsh methods, artificial flavors, preservatives, or chemicals.
The firm claims its technology will enable the manufacture of ready-to-eat (MRE) meals that closely resemble traditional or professionally made dishes.
The ASAP process is energy-efficient, using significantly less water and energy compared to traditional methods such as canning and freezing. It claims its technology uses 30% less energy than traditional canning and 80% less than freezing methods
Key Customers and partnershipsIXON customers include 25+ businesses worldwide, including Italian chicken processor Amadori, US meat processors Cargill and Tyson Foods, seafood producer Thai Union, and packaging companies such as Sealed Air and Ecolab.
In October 2021, IXON Food Technology joined the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) Ag stream to leverage the program’s resources and mentorship to rapidly scale and commercialize IXON’s food sterilization and packaging technology.
