Eternal (formerly Kernel Mycofoods) is a spin-off of Enye-Tech, a design, technology, and ideation company based in Buenos Aires. Eternal’s flagship product is Mycofood, an alternative protein ingredient produced using Fusarium venenatum biomass, with AI, computer vision, and proprietary tech used to optimize the production process. The fungus- Fusarium venenatum is already approved for human consumption by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Further, the company was the winner of the Phase 1 NASA Deep Space Food Challenge and a semi-finalist in the ongoing XPRIZE Feed the Next Billion competition.
Funding and financials
In its latest funding round in December 2021, the startup raised USD 15 million, which is expected to be used to accelerate growth by developing strategic partnerships with food producers which includes facilitating an annual production capacity of over 50,000 metric tons in five years as well. The startup also announced the possibility of a public listing in 2022.
