MAA'VA

Based in California, MAA’VA is a startup that develops carbon-negative concrete material as an alternative to traditional concrete using plastic and non-plastic waste, carbon sequestration, and upcycling of manufacturing waste. The company uses its patent-pending technology to convert non-recyclable plastic waste into aggregate as a replacement for sand for its sustainable concrete. MAA’VA stated that its material can be 3D printed and can be used in both conventional and 3D printing construction methods. The company had plans to commercialize by partnering with 3D printing and construction companies or by developing their own 3D printers for the construction of houses.

As of October 2021, the company had not commercialized but stated plans to do so within the next six months or one year depending on their R&D progress. MAA’VA planned to target both the domestic and international markets.

The company claims that its concrete material is lighter, has a faster curing time, and reduces water usage and carbon emissions compared to traditional concrete. In addition, MAA’VA claims that houses can be built in a day and at a tenth of the cost and half the waste compared to conventional construction.

In September 2022, the company raised USD 525,000 in seed funding led by SOSV.
