Colorado-based Plume offers a membership-based telehealth platform that focuses on serving the LGBTQ community through its “Spruce” mobile app. The membership includes video consultations, prescriptions for gender-affirming medications, lab monitoring, progress monitoring, letters (for name or gender changes and medical letters of support for surgeries), and delivery of hormone medications. The company’s virtual consultations are offered through text, phone, and video calls, while its mobile app also provides medical history storage. 

Founded in 2019, Plume serves over 5,000 patients as of May 2021 and was available across 37 states including Florida, New York, and Texas as of March 2022. Plume’s membership was priced at USD 99 per month (including the cost of care and lab monitoring) as of August 2022. The company also issues letters of support for surgeries at a rate of USD 150 for non-members. In addition, Plume’s services are available across over 40 states and are accessible to more than 93% of the transgender population in the US.  

Funding and financials

In August 2022, the company raised USD 24 million in a Series B funding round led by Transformation Capital. The funds were set aside to expand the platform’s geographic coverage across the US, along with offering primary care services. The company also earmarked these funds to work with health plan providers to ensure its platform is covered by insurance.
