Epoch Biodesign is a British startup that uses biology to design enzymes that convert plastic waste into chemicals that have low carbon impact and are circular. The company’s technology, Total BioDesign™, combines multiple disciplines to develop enzymatic processes aimed at industrial applications. After having emerged out of stealth mode in June 2022, the company noted that it was working toward developing and commercializing its plastic-eating enzyme solution.

Funding and financials

In June 2022, Epoch raised USD 11 million in a seed funding round led by Lowercarbon Capital. The funding will support the company in expanding its protein design platform, constructing new R&D facilities, and further scaling bio-recycling.
