Above Food

Above Food is a plant-based protein company specializing in the development of whole food products in four general areas; ingredients, meat, dairy and baby products. The company expanded into the plant-based dairy industry with the acquisition of Only Oats, a gluten-free oats-based ingredient supplier, and CULCHERED, an organic plant-based dairy company in July 2021.

Above Food operates a vertically integrated oats supply chain platform with CULCHERED processing oat-based ingredients produced by Only Oats to make oat-based cheese and other dairy products. In March 2022, the company unveiled Oat Base, a specialty ingredient made using water, oats, and enzymes that use the company's Sonic Milling technology. Above Food claims Oat Base can act as the core ingredient for plant-based beverages, ice cream, and cheeses, among other applications. The company also offers Neat Egg, a retail egg replacement product made using chia seeds and garbanzo beans, which it added to its portfolio following its acquisition of Atlantic Natural Foods in October 2021.

In May 2022, as a part of its expansion into the oat-based product market, the company opened a gluten-free oats facility for storage, processing, and packaging adjacent to its existing ingredient terminal outside of Regina, Saskatchewan—claimed to be the largest organic terminal in Canada.
