DFree is a connected medical device designed for elders dealing with incontinence. It was launched at CES 2019 and provides a wearable ultrasound sensor that detects the fluid content in the user’s bladder. The central battery-powered piece needs to be clipped onto a belt or carried in a pocket, while the smaller sensor needs to be attached to the stomach with ultrasound gel and medical tape.
The sensor calculates fluid levels in the bladder to notify the user when to head to the bathroom. It allows users to customize the notification threshold and also records the average time between bathroom visits.
The device costs USD 400 and is also offered for rental use for USD 40 per month across the US.
Key customers and partnerships
DFree serves a wide range of customers, including elderly individuals, people with mobility impairments, and those suffering from urinary incontinence. The device is also used in healthcare settings, such as nursing homes and hospitals, to aid in patient care. The company has partnered with various healthcare organizations to integrate DFree into their patient management systems, reducing the need for incontinence products like diapers and pads.
