Imagry is an Israel-based startup that develops hardware-agnostic mapless driving solutions for Level 3–4 autonomous vehicles using hi-resolution cameras and bio-inspired technology (i.e., at Level 3, the driver is not required to maintain full vigilance but must be able to take control if necessary and Level 4 refers to fully autonomous vehicles limited to specific locations and/or conditions). Its location-independent system facilitates deployment on unknown roads and can be installed on passenger vehicles and buses. The company uses low-cost sensors and real-time processing to eliminate the need for digital mapping or continuous satellite connection. In January 2024, the company announced a new autonomous driving function aimed at drivers who require assistance due to either inexperience or longer reaction times due to age, fatigue, or distraction. The system, named “Safe Driver Overwatch,” prevents drivers from exceeding speed limits and disobeying traffic signals and signs.
The company has tested its solution in the roads of Haifa (Israel), an area claimed to be difficult to navigate. In May 2023, it received the first ever autonomous bus permit awarded by Israel’s Ministry of Transportation. As of February 2024, Imagry has also been operating its autonomous vehicles on public roads in California, Arizona, Frankfurt (Germany), and Tokyo (Japan).
Key customers and partnerships
Imagry has a partnership with Otokar, a Turkish bus and military vehicle manufacturer, to produce its shuttles—of which the first was received by the company in December 2022.
In January 2023, the company announced plans to pilot autonomous shuttles at Sheba medical center and on a public bus line in Nahariya, Israel in partnership with Nateev Express, a local public transport operator.
January 2023 the company partnered with the global automotive parts manufacturer Continental to integrate its technology in the Continental Autonomous Driving (AD) platform offering for passenger vehicles to automate parking exploration.
Funding and financials
In September 2022, Imagry raised USD 10 million in convertible notes.
