Volley is an asynchronous communication tool that is centered around video conversations (76% of messages [“volleys”] sent are video-based) and aims to replace synchronous text and conferencing tools such as Slack and Zoom, respectively. Use cases include brainstorming sessions, daily standups, presentations, and team updates. The tool also organizes the video messages, which can be viewed across any platform, into threaded workspaces using interactive transcripts. It launched in beta in Spring 2021 and reported several thousand early users with a retention rate of 98% among its active users, as of October 2021. As of October 2021, the tool is available for free.
Volley raised USD 5.5 million in a seed funding round led by Shasta Ventures with participation from Peterson Ventures in October 2021. Angel investors such as Nate Walkingshaw (former CPO, Pluralsight), Godard Abel (CEO, G2 Crowd), and Todd Pedersen (CEO, Vivint) also participated. The funding is expected to help Volley scale operations and support its customer acquisition efforts.
