Blue Ocean Barns specializes in developing feed additives for cows using red seaweed. Its flagship product, Brominata™, is a completely natural digestive aid to help cows retain more energy from their feed while simultaneously reducing methane emissions from enteric fermentation. Brominata is a patented variant of Asparagopsis taxiformis, scientifically proven to cut methane emissions from cows by at least 80%. Furthermore, it holds the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status and is produced at the company’s USDA-certified organic facilities in San Diego.

Blue Ocean Barns collaborates with various stakeholders in the agriculture and food industries to deploy Brominata™ effectively across supply chains. Notable partnerships include dairy pioneers like Ben & Jerry's, Clover Sonoma, and Straus Family Creamery. These partnerships aim to integrate Brominata™ into regular cattle feed programs, providing the supplement at no cost to farmers. 

Funding and financials

In July 2022, Blue Ocean Barns raised USD 20 million in Series A funding, led by Valor Siren Ventures. The funding was earmarked for expanding farming operations, including tank-based farming and processing facilities, and facilitating commercial adoption.
