Moxion Power manufactures and rents mobile energy storage solutions, providing temporary power-as-a-service solutions to customers in construction, electrified transportation, events and entertainment, and telecommunications. The company’s technology, powered by AI and software, and its vertically integrated business model offer an alternative to fossil-fuel-burning generators. Moxion Power claims that storing energy from the grid in a battery is around 7x cheaper than converting diesel fuel into electricity in commercial generators.
The company offers two products: the MP-75 offers 75 kW of power and over 600 kWh of energy storage while the MP-30/200 offers a maximum continuous output of 30 kW and 200 kWh of energy storage. Furthermore, multiple Moxion units can be combined and operated at once to increase power and energy capacity.
In May 2023, Moxion reported plans to build a 205,000 sq.ft manufacturing plant in California with an annual production capacity of 7 GWh.
Key customers and partnerships
Moxion Power has signed letters of intent with several large construction firms, including Turner, Swinerton, Webcor, and DPR, and EV fleet operators in the US.
In December 2022 Amazon began leasing Moxion units on multiple sets at Amazon Studios. Following this in March 2023, Sunbelt Rentals ordered over 600 MP-75/600 mobile battery units for its operations.
Funding and financials
In September 2022, Moxion Power raised USD 100 million in a Series B funding round led by Tamarack Global. The funds will be used to scale production at Moxion’s first two domestic manufacturing facilities in California; one of which is currently under construction and the second which is to be commissioned in 2024.
Prior to this, in May 2021, Moxion Power raised USD 10 million in a Series A funding round led by Energy Impact Partners. The company used the proceeds to scale its manufacturing operations, launch its first rental location, and tend to its backlog of customer orders. Other investors in Moxion include the Amazon Climate Pledge Fund, the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, Sunbelt Rentals, Enterprise Holdings, and Marubeni Ventures.
