Resynergi offers Continuous Microwave Assisted Pyrolysis (CMAP) technology that converts plastic waste into fresh chemicals for new plastics 20x faster than traditional pyrolysis methods. The company operates a pilot plant in Santa Rosa, California.

The technology can utilize high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density PE (LDPE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS) waste plastics, which represent approximately 60% of the plastic types produced. It claims to have a 10x smaller reactor footprint, uses microwave energy to break down plastic molecules 100x faster than traditional pyrolysis, and produces clean products with up to 68% CO2e reduction. A 1-ton CMAP reactor unit can convert 1.25 tons of plastic waste per day, with the technology claiming a processing capacity of approximately 20 to 50 tons per day.

The company is yet to commercialize its technology as of January 2024.

Key customers and partnerships

In June 2017, Resynergi partnered with the University of Minnesota, combining the latter’s microwave-based technology with its modular, microwave-based system to convert un-recycled plastic waste into biodiesel.

In September 2019, Resynergi partnered with CannaCraft, a cannabis manufacturer, to pilot a program converting plastic cannabis packaging into fuel to power vehicles for CannaCraft’s distribution arm, Kind House Distribution.

In December 2020, Airfield Supply Company, a single-site dispensary, joined the pilot program.

Funding and financials

In January 2024, Resynergi raised USD 6.4 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Transitions First (T1ST) and Lummus Technology to scale the production of its CMAP technology and expand its executive team.
