Floodlight is a nonprofit investigative news organization founded in 2021, primarily focused on reporting on climate change, environmental issues, and the impacts of the oil and gas industry. The organization has a team of experienced investigative reporters and editors based across the US, with a concentrated focus on the Gulf Coast region, particularly Louisiana and Texas.
Floodlight's team comprises eight individuals, including five reporters, one editor, and a director of investigations. They have published award-winning investigative reports and series in collaboration with renowned media outlets such as NPR, The Guardian, and The Los Angeles Times. Their reporting has garnered prestigious accolades, including being named finalists for the 2023 Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting and winning the Los Angeles Press Club's award on misinformation, as well as the 2024 Southern Environmental Law Center's Reed Award for reporting on the environment.
In addition to their investigative journalism work, Floodlight has received a Chainlink Grant in June 2022 to develop an on-chain data feed providing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data. This initiative aims to enable the creation of hybrid smart contracts that incentivize reforestation, sustainable farming practices, and other climate-focused initiatives by making geospatial data accessible on the blockchain.
