Quantum-South

Quantum-South is a Uruguayan software company that specializes in developing quantum computing applications for optimizing complex operations in the air and maritime cargo industries.

Its flagship product is an air cargo optimization application that determines the optimal loading strategy for packing merchandise in aircraft. This software aims to maximize cargo loading while adhering to constraints such as weight, length, center of gravity, shear forces, and fuselage shape. By employing quantum algorithms, the application can efficiently handle the exponential increase in possible combinations as the number of packages grows, a task that poses significant challenges for classical computing methods.

Quantum-South's software supports two decks for loading unit load devices (ULDs), incorporating industry-standard container and pallet sizes. It considers aircraft-specific restrictions and optimizes the placement of ULDs to improve fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The software is flexible, allowing customization to specific business requirements and application across various cargo aircraft models and passenger aircraft.

As of February 2022, Quantum-South had released its air cargo optimization application and was ready to execute proof-of-concept projects with air cargo companies involving real-world operations and specific aircraft models. 

Key customers and partnerships

In July 2022, Quantum-South became the first Latin American company to join the IBM Quantum Network. This partnership granted Quantum-South access to IBM's quantum computing systems, expertise, and Qiskit Runtime platform. In June 2024, Quantum South partnered with Kipu Quantum to exploit the benefits of quantum computing in several sectors.
