Twill

Twill (formerly 'Happify Health') is a digital therapeutics platform that operates B2C and B2B business lines. The B2C operation consists of a self-care and wellness platform called Happify by Twill that offers guided meditation, games, and activities led by an AI and machine learning-powered chatbot called Anna. Anna is designed to replicate interactions with a coach or therapist to determine the appropriate Happify activities for a user based on short conversations. The free app also offers a premium plan priced at USD 14.99 per month (as of February 2022) that gives unlimited access to users. Founded in 2012, the platform was available as a benefit for 18 million individuals globally in 10 languages as of June  2022.

Twill develops both prescription-based digital therapeutics (PDTs) that require US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approval and non-prescription treatments designed to treat mental health conditions including stress, anxiety, and depression as well as comorbidities that may be worsened by mental health conditions.In July 2021, the company launched “Ensemble” , the first transdiagnostic prescription digital therapeutic in the US to treat Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

In July 2022, the company rebranded as "Twill , the Intelligent Health Company”, signifying its shift from a wellness app to its evolving identity as a clinical-grade solution platform.

Key customers and partnerships

The company operates a B2B business model to develop evidence-based digital therapeutic and care delivery tools for healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies, employers, and health plans. It also partners with clients to expand market reach for its own products. It partnered with Copado in November 2021 to expedite its global distribution and reach of its services.

In July 2022, the company partnered with YourCoach Health to provide members access to cross-specialty coaches.

In November 2022, Twill partnered with e-Psychiatry to offer virtual consultations with psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists across the US.

Its DTx development partners include pharmaceutical company Zuellig Pharma to commercialize two of its PDTs in Asia, health insurance company Anthem Inc . (renamed Elevance Health) to launch a digital-first solution for maternal health in select markets, and neuroscience-focused pharma company Biogen to develop an AI-powered digital patient engagement and education tool for individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Funding and financials

The company’s latest funding round took place in March 2021, where it raised USD 73 million in a Series D funding round led by Deerfield Management Company and the proceeds were used to expand its service offerings, establish business opportunities with pharmaceutical companies, and increase its workforce.
