Avalo, a biotech company, uses AI and machine learning models to identify crop traits and accelerate crop evolution by selecting improved crossbreeds. Avalo with its AI-based platform targets preferred crop traits using its patented Gene Discovery by Informationless Perturbation (GDIP) process and then uses a digital genotyping panel to predict the performance of new crops. After predictions, Avalo uses predictive evolution and in-silico optimization to develop new crop varieties. The final stage is a continuous cycle of using AI to gather data and learn more with every new project.
The company develops crop biology to be more resilient and sustainable, have improved nutrients and flavor, and have increased plant varieties. Avalo aims to expand crop diversity beyond wheat, corn, rice, and soy, which currently form two-thirds of plant-based food in the human diet, and develop resiliency traits for drought tolerance, water-use efficiency, and nutrient density.
