Canaery

Canaery is a neurotech startup that has developed a cutting-edge technology to digitize smell. The company's proprietary neural interface, based on nearly a decade of primary research, can detect every scent that enters the natural olfactory system of a working animal and wirelessly transmit the chemical signatures to the cloud for processing. This happens in seconds, even if the animal cannot consciously identify the scent.

Canaery's technology harnesses the sense of smell found in nature instead of attempting to replicate millions of years of evolution artificially. It combines the olfactory capabilities of mammals with advanced neural implant technology to serve various industries such as medical diagnostics, physical security, and global supply chain monitoring. Founded in 2022 by Gabriel Lavella, Peter Ledochowitsch, and Dmitry Rinberg, Canaery raised over USD 4 million in seed funding led by Breakout Ventures, with participation from Dolby Family Ventures, KdT Ventures, and SOSV. The company was previously part of the IndieBio class of 2021.

Canaery's technology has numerous potential applications, including early disease diagnosis, preventing the spread of invasive species, and identifying environmental hazards, explosives, or biological threats. It can also be deployed for inspecting cargo containers for contraband and performing non-invasive detection of physiologic and infectious diseases.

In June 2022, Canaery announced its partnership with the Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator at the University of Florida, providing access to facilities and services to support the company's growth and achieve commercial scale.
