Pressto was founded in 2021 by Daniel Stedman, the co-founder of Brooklyn Magazine and Northside Media. The SaaS-based platform provides writing and journalism education for K-12 students, contains proprietary technology that helps develop media literacy, critical thinking, and writing skills, and acts as a tool for creative communication. The platform offers a newspaper builder, interactive tools that provide real-time feedback and guidance, cognitive behavior therapy lessons to aid understanding and critical thinking, and the Pressto Academy, which secures paid writing assignments for graduates.
Pressto announced its global launch in April 2021. The company sought to partner with schools to implement the program as a supplemental curriculum, with plans to extend the program to parents and children for personal use. The program was a part of a pilot program with schools in the US and Canada.

The company has partnered with local government offices, such as the NYC Mayor's office and the Honolulu Mayor's office, to implement its Junior Journalism program. Pressto also integrates with Google Classroom, making it easier for teachers to incorporate into their existing workflows.
